The Department had agreed that when the Council made up/the approaches it would extend the walls 12ft at each end of the bridge, so as to be capable of retaining the neees- ' sarv fillings required to form ; the ap-'* pronclies. The Mayor (Mr. 0. Nicholson) described . the letter as " satisfactory as far as it went," and declared, amidst laughter, that he thought his candidature for the rev Lynn seat had lent considerable assistance in. the matter. On th& motion of the Mayor, it was decided to forward a letter of thanks to Mr. Fovvlds' foi his efforts, and also to discuss the question at a special meeting of the Council on Monday evening next. The proposal to raise a loan, in order to provide funds for the carrying out of the work, will then be brought up.
