LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.

A COMPREHENSIVE LIST. A large number of sections of Crown land, chiefly second-class, will be opened for selection in Auckland land district at the end A October, applications closing on October 28. In Hokianga County, in Tutamoe survey district, there are two sections of undulating bush land, one of 747 acres, at a cash purchase price of £825, and one of 252 acres, at £190, the former being 22 miles, the latter 10 miles from Kaihu railway station. Another section, 357 .acres at £305, in the same survey district, is partly in Hokianga and partly in Hobson County. The Waipoua survey district has three fairsized sections, and there is akc a fair bush section of 205 acres in Waoku survey district, all on the optional system. Maungatajiiwha survey district, in Mangonui County, is being cut up fairly "well, there being 13 sections offering on the optional system, ranging from 192 acres to 432 acres, the majority being over 200 acres. A good deal of the land is under bush, and several of the sections are •weighted for kauri timber. A section of 141 acre* is to bo opened in Te Kuri parish, Hobson County, most of it in bush bat including some good swamp land, and there is a section of 106 acres in Takabue survey district, Mangonui, about 40 acres being mixed forest and the balance fern and manuka land. •

• Sixteen miles from Kohukohu, in Hokianga County, a section ■of 436 acres, covered with mixed forest, is being opened, and in the Mangainuka survey district there are two small sections, and another of 59 acres in Qniauaia parish. A section of 99 acres, of undulating fern country, fair quality soil on volcanic rock, is being opened in Waiotahi parish, Opotiki County, •while in Tauranga County, Te Papa parish, there is a section of 157 acres of undulating fern kind, fair quality soil on volcanic formation.

On the renewable lease system there is a. section of 515 acres in the Rotonia survey district, Wbakatane County, soil light but good quality <on pumice formation, the major portion under mixed forest, another section of 188 acres in Hukerenui survey district, Bay of Islands, 100 acres over-rim by fire, and now in fern, with fair quality soil, and another section of 716 acres in Maramarua parish, Waikalo, including 40 acres swamp, some light bush and a good area of fern and scrub, all being national endowment lands. In Ohinemuri County, Wartoa survey district, five sections are being opened on the optional system, ranging from 296 to 321 acres, undulating' to broken land, mostly covered with tea-tree, and the soil being inferior on the tops of the spurs, but improving nearer the streams. In Whakatane again, Rotoma survey district has two sections on the optional system, cue of 604 acres, and tho other 1268 acres. The soil in each case is light and sandy, on pumice formation, and similar characteristics prevail in the case of a sflßtion in Rotorua survey district, of 295 acres.

In Piako County, on the optional system, there is one section in Maungakawa survey district of 240 acres, offered at £1 per acre. Several small lots are to be, sold by auction, in Russell . survey district, Bay of Islands, and * Paremoremo parish, Waitemata County.
