SERIES OF THEFTS.
YOUNG MAN FROM GERMANY. [BY TET.EGHAPH. — TRUSS ASSOCIATION.] Dannevirke, Thursday. To-day a young man, named William Richtev, a recent arrival from Germany, was before the Court charged with the theft of jewellery, breaking and entering, and theft of a bicycle on July 4. He stole* the bicycle from Masterton, rode through to Dannevirke, and threw the machine in a stream. He then visited the residence of W. F. Knight and asked for and was supplied with food. On leaving he saw a window open, and went in and stole a jewel-case, the property of Mrs. Williams. He went on to Napier, and, on returning again, entered the house, but was discovered and decamped without anything. The robbery was a mystery, but Riohter was subsequently arrested '*■ Wellington for the theft of the bicycle, and the jewels and a ring, identified as that of Mrs. Williams, were found in the lining of his coat. He pleaded guilts and was committed for sentence. For the theft of-the bicycle at Masterton he received three months.
