' A variety of Maori treasures was secured by Mr. A. Hamilton, director of the Do- , minion Museum, during his recent North- ; era trip {wires our Wellington corresponi dent). Among them is a small tomahawk, i the former property of a chief at Jerusalem, on the Wasganui River, to which (says the Dominion) a thrilling history probably attaches. A more murderouslooking hand weapon could hardly be imagined. The steel head is wedgeshaped, with a broad cutting edge, and ie '. set on to a handle of smooth-polished whale's bone, with a thong to secure the i weapon to the wrist. The extremity of the handle below the head is carved in the resemblance of a human form, protruding from the haft. The lower part of the ' handle is also carved. There is a second axe of rougher workmanship, and another curiosity is a whale's tooth pend- . \ ant, of most unusual shape. The greater \ part of Mr. Hamilton's acquisition is still in course of transit.
