SHEEP RETURNS.

MILLION AND AHALF INCREASE. [BY TELEGRAPH. iVTXUS, CORRESPONDENT.]

; Wellington, Wednesday. ! The sheep returns for the year ended April 30 show a net increase in the North Islana of 778,183, and in the South ; Island of 687,098, faaking a total net increase for the Dominion of 1,465,281. The total number of sheep in the Dominion was 22,449,053, there being 10,816,852 in the South, and 11,632,201 in the North Island. The district* table shows the number as ! follows J—'Auckland, 923,807; Napiei and Gisborne, 5,446,761; Wellington and west coast, 5,261,633 Marlborough and Nelson, 1,191,997; Canterbury and Kaikoura, 5,306,916; Otagb, 4,317,939. The num. i ber of breeding cwee increased from 10,736,846 to 11,244,041. The grand total of "nearly 22£ millions is easily a record for the Dominion.
