LICENSING COMMITTEE.
QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the City Licensing Committee was held yesterday, the bench being occupied by Messrs.* R. W. Dyer, S.M. (chairman), P. E. Cheal, W. J. Bees, M. Casey, and Craves Air'.-in folice Reports: Several reports were submitted to the committee. One was from Sub-Inspector Gordon, bearing out his previous statement in his annual report to the effect that the improvement with regard to women drinking m hotels had been maintained. Constable Murphy, of Freeman's Bay, made a similar report concerning the hotels at Freeman's Bay„ and said that the; number of women visiting them had decreased. » ;; : ' Licenses: A transfer of license was granted to John Henry Turnbull from John Shields (Alexandra Hotel). The steamship Navua (Union Co.) was granted a packet license. Alleged Breaches: It was stated that proceedings were pending in the cases of the Bricklayers" Arms and British Hotels for alleged Sunday trading, and against the United Service and Thistle Hotels for alleged permitting of drunkenness on the premises. Hotel Alterations: It -was reported that satisfactory alterations had been made at the Britomart and Wynyard Arms Hotels and that a tender had been accepted for the additions at the Freeman's Hotel.
