The Mayor of Tapanui, Mr. McFarlane, who is a staunch no-license man, and who was in Auckland during Fleet Week, was asked hie opinion ou the stiitementc made by Mr. Palmer as to the " bacchanalian orgies" in Auckland during the visit of the American fieefc (wires our Dunedin correspondent). He. said: "I was. pretty well all round Auckland and Onehunga during the time the public functions were 'n progress. There was plenty to drink, but I never saw any cases of intoxication. 1 j never «aw anything to indicate that there l was an 'orgy' of any kind going on. 1 spoke to a number of the sailors and marines of the visiting navy, and my impression was that they were, on the whole, u very decent and temperate olasr of men-of-warsmen.''
