PERSIA AND THE PEOPLE.
ULTIMATUM TO THE SHAH. By Telegraph.— Association.—Copyright. , Teheran, August 31. The revolutionaries at Tabriz have issued an ultimatum to the Shah demanding the selection of a Ministry from the revolutionaries, the expulsion of all reactionaries from -Teheran, and the granting of 1 a full amnesty to offenders during Jhe recent revolutionary ; outbreak. ;in Teheran and Tabriz. A force; of Cossacks a.nd ' soldiers surrounded the Parliament Buildings in Teheran on June 24, and demanded some reform leaders, whose arrest the Shah j had ordered.. Parliament refused to hand them over, and some of its supporters 'fired at the Cossacks, killing several. The - Shah then sent a body of artillery and bombarded Parliament. Street fighting continued for some days, 18 reform leaders being; arrested and subsequently executed. Eventu- - ally Britain and Russia suggested to the Shah that he should issue a proclamation announcing his desire to abolish the Constitution, and he gave full assurances that. he would do so. An ; amnesty was - proclaimed, and the Shall promised to convene a new Parliament in three months' time. Fighting still continued at Tabriz, however, where the latest reports stated that ■ a period of promiscuous assassinations had begun. *
