THE "BRASS BOY" IN TROUBLE. In the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M., a youth named William Henry Goodall, " brass boy" on the Navu,a, who had presented two of his friends with some of the ship's stores, to the value of 2s 3d, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, he having been convicted of stealing three times previously. His Worship described the theft as a most impudent one. < " NO DESIRE FOR THE HOME. Nellie Mills, a young woman, who had pleaded guilty to a charge of loitering, and had been remanded in order that she might consider the advisableness of entering the Salvation Army Home, said that she had no desire to acquiesce with His Worship's suggestion to that effect. "I have heard about these homes," said the woman. " Yes," remarked Mr. Kettle, " but I have visited them, and when there saw nothing but comfort and kindness." !, His Worship convicted accused, and remanded her for . sentence until Saturday, saying that he would see what could be done for her. : ■ • MISCELLANEOUS. : A young man, named Thomas : Jackson, was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment, for misconducting himself in Manukau Road,, Parnell. His Worship described the accused's record as a very bad one. He was also prohibited for twelve months. "Drink appears to have got- you into most of your trouble," said Sir. Kettle, addressing the accused. Thomas Olsen, a sailor, was fined 10s, or in default 48 bom's' imprisonment, for drunkenness, while John Irwin, farm assistant, ' of Waikumete, was prohibited for hie third offence within six months. Two. first offenders were fined 5s with the usual alternative.
