At a meting of the Executive Council of the Waihi Miners and Workers' Union a- sunn of £20 was voted to the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Labourers' Union. It was decided to place £250 of the union's' credit balance on fixed deposit.' Dissatisfaction was expressed at the Waikino branch in failing to select a committee, and it was decided to forward a resolution to that effect to the branch, and also to ask it to call a meeting for next week, when the Waihi committee will attend. Mr. Thomas Boyd, road contractor, of Katikati, had two ribs broken and a foot injured a day or two ago through a horse he was driving taking fright and bolting. [from OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] At the monthly meeting of the Band of Hope, special interest was taken in the proceedings, as the prizewinners in the recent recitation competition received their prizes. The programme was a '-.varied one, consisting of recitations by the children, an excellent dialogue by eight members of the society, and two vocal solos by Miss Latimer. A football match 'between- the public .school boys and a combined J earn from the Sunday-schools was played on Saturday, resulting in a win for the combined Sundayschools by 12 points to nil. All the points were scored from tries, none of which were converted. The school team had bad luck in not scoring on several occasions. The growth of population in Otahuhn is noticeable in the increased number of scholars at the public school, which now has over 220 on the roll. If the present good average is maintained the school v*ij] shortly be entitled to an additional "assistant teacher. The 27th anniversary social of the Loyal Franklin Lodge, No. 6453, M.U. 1.0.0. F., A.D,, was held in the Public Hall, Otahuhu, on Friday evening last. About 150 couples occupied the' floor. Brother C. G. Tyke, P.G., district warden, represented die district officers, and presented Brother Jus. McAnility, P. 0., with a framed certificate, in recognition of his services while pissing through the chairs of the lodge. The Rev. Father Buckley and the lodge surgeon, Dr. Rowley, were present. The lodge has now 100 members, and its finances are in a sound condition. CAMBRIDGE. [FROM our own correspondent.] The Borough Council held its usual monthly meeting on Friday evening last, the Mayor (Mr. W. F. Buekland) presiding. The Finance Committee's report showed the overdraft on the district fund as £2229 16s 6d. The Mayor stated that the drainage .of Victoria-street swamp was now within measurable distance, as the Drainage Board was arranging for the necessary loan to carry out the main work. The Leamington Town Board and Pukekura Road Board had agreed, he said, to share the cost of one lamp each on the Victoria bridge. The Tourist Department wrote stating that it was not practicable to include Cambridge in the Department's itinerary. It was decided that all ponnd sales be hold on either Mondays or Wednesdays, at 12 noon. The Council as one of the contributors to the manual and technical school fund, decided to request the Education Board to make some forward move re the erection of a building, or refund money forwarded! A children's party was held in Alexandra Hall, Cambridge, on Friday afternoon last. The ladies responsible for the success of the function were Mesdames Jas. Taylor .0. Hunter, McCulkgh, R. J.
