WHANGARE S.M. COURT.
[BY TEI.KGRAI'H.— correspondent.] Whangarei, Wednesday. The monthly sitting of the Whangarei S.M. Court was held yesterday, Mr. R. W. Dyer, S.M., presiding. The following undefended civil actions were dealt with —James Jackson v. Elizabeth Head, £26 10s, and costs £2 14s; Auckland Farmers' Union v. G. C. err an, £6 17s ( , and costs £3; James Hoey v, D. Sands, £17 3s 2d, and costs £2 10s 6d; T. L. Drummond v. Colin McMillan, lis 3d, and costs 16s. Jeremiah Sullivan was charged with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, and was fined £2, with 7s cost s. A man named Nelson was fined £10, and 7s costs, for. supplying Sullivan with liquor during the currency of the order. H. R. Shortland was charged with having failed to stamp a receipt that was liable to duty, and after evidence was taken lie was convicted and fined £1, with costs 235. •- An action was taken by Mr. Prender-. ga,st against. F. J. Pryor for failing to keep a, public pound clean and for making unlawful pound charges. After hearing considerable evidence on both sides His Worship convicted the defendant of receiving unlawful pound fees, and fined him 10s, with costs £6 17s. In regard to the state of the pound defendant was convicted and discharged, being directed to pay the costs, 9s. One month was allowed in which to make payment.
