ROBBERIES IN THE SOUTH.
BURGLARS AT OAMARU.

Oamabtj, Wednesday. What appears to have been an attempt at burglary was perpetrated during last night. The premise® of Mr. B. Grenfell, outfitter, of Thames-street, were entered by a back window, and, although nothing is so far missing, tit®' office and contents were considerably ransacked. Some money lying in » box, though handy, was apparently overlooked. . Further up the street a back window in Mr. Mollison's boot warehouse Wits broken, and the workshop, was entered. Here again nothing appears to have been taken. The police believe the attempt? to be the work of juveniles.
THE GISBORNE CASE.

Gishoenk, Wednesday. Diligent investigations were made yesterday by the police in connection with the robbery at a boarding-house in Lowe-street on Monday afternoon, with the result that a young man was arrested in Gladstone Road last evening by Constable Pratt. When searching the man's lodgings, Sergeant nutton discovered a tin trunk which had been reported tc him some time ago a? being stolen. At the Court this morning Joseph Dante was charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of Miss E. Wilson on the 17th inst., arid stealing a pair of trousers valued at £1 Is, a leather purse, and 30s, the property of W. G. Bradley. Accused was further charged with stealing, on o. about July 26, a tin trunk containing wearing apparel, etc., to the value of £5, the property of Wm. Burnett, of Whatatutu. Upon the application of Sergeant Hutton, accused wa_ remanded on both charges until Monday next.
