NEW-SOP THE HAWEA. VESSEL STILL ADRIFT. NEAR DANGEROUS REEFS. By Telegraph.—?rfl«s Association.—Copyright. 'Received Aug-nst 18, 12.30 a.m.) Sydney, August 17. A boat from the Union Company's steamer Hawea, which is adrift, in the Pacific with a broken propeller, landed on South Solitary Island, near Clarence River, to-day. The island is not connected by telegraph, but signals state that the boat is in charge of the chief officer, and that s!k* left, the Hawea on August 10, in latitude ?9deg. 15m. south and longitude 154deg. 57m. east. The captain, the message states, requested U be immediately assisted, as he feared the vessel would drift on to the reefs t< the northward of Lord Howe Island. The chief officer stated that the vessel's longitude position will probably be affected by the recent south-west gales. The occupants of the boat- landed greatly exhausted. TWENTY DAYS OVERDUE. NO TIDINGS OF THE AEON. Up to art early hour this morning there was no news of the steamer Aeon, of the Australian Mail line, which is now some 20 days overdue at Auckland from San Francisco and Samoa. When the steamer left Auckland for San Francisco she was under the command of Captain E. A. Downie. who was accompanied by his wife. The deck officers were: Chief, Mr. D. Thomas; second, Mr. A. S. Leek; third, Mr. M. Lancaster. 'iHie engine department was in charge of Mr. J. Mirrott, with Messrs. H. Irving, W. A. Thornton, and M. Mastic. The crew were all Chinese, including sailors, firemen, stewards, and servants, numbering about 30.
