BOROUGH COUNCILS.
GREY LYNX, A meeting of the Grey Lynn Borough j Council was hold last night, there being present: The Mayor (Mir. (r. Sayers) and Messrs. Garland, A. Creamer, Smith, Mat- j ray, W. Dimery, Muldoon, Holdsworth, and j Schofield. • ! Cox's Creek Drainage: The town cleric ciS the Auckland City Council (Mr. H. W. WiJt son) forwarded a report furnished by (be 'engineer (Mr. W. I!. Bush) on the question of drainage at Cox's Creek, la thecourse of hi* repot* Mr. Rush pointed out that, Cox*.* Creek wm uncovered for practically two-thirds of every tide, and was in every respect, a site ripe for reclamation. The whole question, he concluded, required very careful consideration before any proposed works were gone on with, and although no doubt the present state of the creek was not one conducive to the health of the people living; in the neighbourhood, yet any temporary method of dealing with the nuisance would be "ike all other temporary expedients, of only doubtful efficiency. He was of the opinion that as far as possible any scheme followed .should be such as would provide works of a permanent and beneficial character. The report was referred to the Drainage Committee. The Drainage Hill: .V communication was" received front the Hon. G. Fowlda, Minister for Education and Public Health, acknowledging the receipt of the Council's letter of the 22nd wit., conveying a resolution asking him to (rive his support towards the passing of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Bill. The Minister, in reply, said that he would do what he could to get the Bill passed this session. He also intimated that he had been asked by the Archhill Road Board to get the Acchhill Gully drain mentioned in the Bill. This the Minister also promised to endeavour to do. The letter was received. In connection with this matter the Mayoi said that he had interviewed \ several Auckland members of Parliament during his recent visit to Wellington, and had been informed thai; the Bill'would probably become law this session, with several slight amendments. Greater Auckland: The Mayor reported that the Mayor of Auckland (Mr. A. M. Myers) had informed him that, the Greater Auckland question was still under his notice, and would be brought up again as moon as the result of the Drainage Bill was known, PARIS'ELL. A meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor presided, and those present were: Messrs. Briggs, Fowler, Lundon, Thomson, and Johns. The question of the extension of the Stan-ley-street sewer was mentioned, an 1 it was agreed that Messrs. Briggs and others should represent the body at the conference, which is to be held on the subject betwusi the Harbour Board, the Works Committee of the City Council, and the Parnell Borough Council on Friday, the 28th 'list. The proposed free library, for the building of which it has been suggested that Mr. Carnegie should be applied to for *i grant, was also referred to, a letter having been received, advising that 20 architects be invited to send in competitive designs, the architect submitting the plan approved of being entrusted with the work, and the architects submitting the two designs ranked next in order of merit being awarded premiums. The matter will come up for discussion at the next meeting of the Council. NEWMARKET. The ordinary meeting of the Newmarket borough last evening was attended by the Mayor (Mr. F. Bennett) and Messrs. H. Kinder, W. Edgerley, J. MeColl, R. Holmes:, and C. Leek. The question of placing names on the various sltreets was left in the hands of Messrs. Holmes and Edgorley, with power to act. It was resolved to hold a special meeting of the Council on Monday night, to consider the application of the A. and P. Association to erect a hall on the Council's reserve in Manukau Road. '
