THE COMING ELECTIONS.
CANDIDATES FOR WAITEMATA. Me. Wake, who intends standing as a candidate for Waitemata at the general election, has visited this district (writes our Upper Waiwera correspondent). The interest of electors, however, is centred in the contest between Mr. Phillipps (Opposition) and Mr. Napier (Government). The former will be well supported by the country electors. Mr. Napier has started his campaign, bu% Waitemata has had so little good treatment from the Government that, the voters of the country districts, at any rate, will not support the present Administration. BAY OF PLENTY SEAT. [FKOM OCK OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Rotorua, Thursday. Politics in the Bay of Plenty electorate promise to be somewhat exciting during the coming ©lection. Mr. Gow has been, nominated as tlie Opposition candidate, while Mr. W. D. S. Mac Donald, of Motu, lias official recognition as the Government candidate. Mr. D. Lundon, of Rotorua, who has been in the field on former occasions, has received a largely-signed requisition from the Rotorua people requesting him to come out as an independent. CLUTHA SEAT. [lit telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION.] • Dunbdin, Thursday. Mr. John Macfarlane (Mayor of Tapanui) will probably be a candidate for Clutha in the Government interest at the general election. TAIERI AND BRUCE ELECTORATES. [BY telegraph.— association.] Dunbdin, Thursday. As Mr. Thomas Mackenzie has definitely decided to contest the Taieri seat, Mr. M. Stevenson (chairman of the Charitable Aid Board), previously spoken of as a candidate for this seat, will stand for Bruce in the Government interests, RANGITIKEI SEAT. [by telegraph.— correspondent.] Wellington, Thursday. After considerable pressure, Mr. F. F. Hockley has consented to contest the Rangatikci seat in the Opposition .interest. HAWERA ELECTORATE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Hawera, Thursday. . Mr. John Driver, who has been selected! as Opposition candidate for the Haweia seat, has retired from the contest. CANDIDATE FOR WATRAU. [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Blenheim, Thursday. Mr. Frank Shaw, a candidate for the Wairau seat, addressed a meeting last night., and declared himself on the side of the Liberal, labour, and temperance interest';. He strongly supported the Hon. R. McNab'a land policy, and advocated the scheme of labour legislation recently outlined by Dr. Findlay.
