r EXPORTS WORTH A MILLION. ■•'■:' LAST YEAR'S RETURNS. 6' [by TELEGRAPH.—OWN correspondent/] 1 Gisbornk, Tuesday, a For the year ended June 30 the value of !, Gisborne's export trade reached close on, a one million pounds sterling, the exact ;\ figures being £946,499- The wool clip in the past 10 years lias doubled, having in- " creased from 21,405 bales in 1898 to 40,418 bales last year, or, if calculated in pounds, from 7,830,000 to 15,678,903, an actual increase of over 100 per cent. The mutton export has increased from 9,379,6971b to 15,825,4721b over the same 10-yearly period. , A large lamb export has been built up, the increase being from 52,0231b in 1898, to 3,487,1381b last year, and similarly the export of beef has increased in a remarkable manner, the figures being 755,5001b in 1898 - and 5,127,7621b in 1908. The values of last year's export of staple * products were: —Wool, £391,972 ; mutton, " £218,663; lamb, £72,232; beef, £64,097. 8 In regard to the export of wool Gisborne, B in comparison with other ports in the e Dominion, stands fourth on the list.
