OLD AGE PENSIONS.
PROPOSED QUALIFICATION. MEMBERSHIP OF A FRIENDLY SOCIETY. By Telegraph.—Press Ajsoeiatitfn.—Copyright. i London, June .19. Mr. Lloyd-George, Chancellor- of the Exchequer, informed a deputation from the friendly societies that the Government meant to make membership of a friendly society a qualification for the old age pension. The Chancellor suggested the adoption of the following sliding scale :— a man's income be 8s a week, he shall receive the full State pension of 5s ; if 9s, he shall receive 4s; and so on, decreasing until 12s is reached, when he will receive Is, no pension being granted beyond that.
