HUNTING.

PAR AN OA. CLUB. The meet- of the Pakuraiiga Hunt Club on Saturday was at Sylvia Park, the favourite hunting ground, and perfect weather assisted in bringing together a large gathering of followers and friends, mounted and driving. About 150 persons were present, including a party from Pukekoho and Waiuku. It was not long beforo a good hare was found on Mr. Discombe's property, and gave followers a good run round the hill. From there she made her way on to Sylvia Park, but the hounds giving her no peace she kept moving along through the beautiful paddocks, giving the followers some excellent jumping over the post-and-rails. (.letting no peace, puss deserted Sylvia Park, and made through Air. - Wallace's property, and after a little dodging ran into Wairna, where she was lost. Another hare was picked up in the swamp at the back of Sylvia Park, and, unfortunately, took a line through Messrs. Stevens', Peters', and Kays' properties, which were tap ground for the day's hunt, and followers had to take the road right round to Mr. Ivays' property, where puss was lost. The hounds were called off, and Mr. Dunn's property visited. Here a hare was soon found, and made off up the hill, but the first jump, a wire fence, with a ditch in front, proved a stumbling block to the majority of followers, and about a dozen had the pleasures of the hunt to themselves. Puss diverged to the left, and went on to Mr. Hamlyn's property, through .some nice clean grass paddocks, and continued her line on to ill*. Bailey's property, which was soon, left behind. Puss then made a sweep to the right, and followers had to take the road for half-a-mile, and then jump over a stone wall, which led on to the Salvation Army's property, where a lot of rough scoria country had to be traversed with care. The quarry then led on to Sir. Kay's, jun., property, where a kill occurred. This was the most enjoyable run of the day. Towards the cud of the first run at the beginning of the day Mr. A. Selby's hunter Barrister was observed to sway and falter up against a gate, and then fell to the ground dead. Mr. Frank Selby, who was riding, had a "narrow escape of being seriously crusted. Barrister, who was an old horse, had done great service on the hunting field. Three horses of Mr. A. Selby's have dropped dead within almost as many years—Albion, gallant old Nor'-west, and Barrister. If; is pieasing to note that Mr. A. Solby is making a good recovery. Amongst those following were: Mrs. Moody (on Mike), Misses N. Gorrio (on Aroha), R. Gorrio (on a bay), Lloyd (on The Abbott), West (on Pukeuui).
