The first round under the auspices of the ~nd Lacrosse Association was completed on Saturday, when West End defeated Grafton by four goals to three. There was a. fair number of spectators, and the play was fast and exciting. The following are the details of the play-From the opening ''face,'* Fisher*dashed away, then sent to Graham. Carpenter checked, and snicked away to McCoy. The latter opened up an attack, and passed to Marshall, who sent to Walton. Brown intercepted, and threw on to Fisher, from whom it went to Hemus, and then on to Kean. Stewart arrived there at the same time as tho ball, and, checking well, trasferred play to his attack. Marshall securing sent to Walton, who drew first blood for West End. From centre, Fisher snicked away to Graham, but McCoy intercepted the Graftonian's pass, and put Warshall in possession. Horspool put in a useful check, and his throw had the sashes busily defending. Hemus eluded his checker, and gave Kean an opening, of which he availed himself by making the score one all- Marshall dashed away from midfield, and save to Walton. Headdy intercepted, and Good sent away to his forwards. Graham opened a rush, and passed to Hemus, and, from a, loose rush, Kean again found the cove-3 goal net. Change ends. From centre, Marshall dashed away in possession; then McCoy took a hand, from whom it went to Weeks; the latter's pass into Marshall was wild, and Horspool cleared his lines. Graham secured, but Carpenter, putting in a useful check, enabled McCoy to secure and dash away for Grafton's goal. Marshall accepted, and sent on to Walton, who registered a pretty goal, and made the score two ail. From the midfield "face," Fisher snicked away to xiemus, who sent on to Kean, but Miller, dashing in, captured the flying rubber, and put McCoy in possession. I rom the latter it went to Marshall, and then on to Walton. Brown intercepted the pass, and put his attack in possession. Graham darted for West End's goal, and was looking dangerous, until well checked by Mayne, and Stewart, cutting in, took possession, and again removed the impending danger. At half-time the score stood two all. From the opening " face off," Marshall secured, and headed a rush into the enemies' tcrritorv. Then McCoy secured, and sent on to Weeks. The latter was assuming a business-like attitude, but Good, with a smart check, stopped and brought play back to centre, from where Smale secured. His pass on to Graham was taken by Carpenter, who knocked the ball back to McCoy. Marshall took advantage of the opening, and rushing through rang on another goal for the westerners. At this stage the play was particularly keen, the passing true, but the checking was even a shade truer. Shortly after the " face off" the Grafton vanguard menaced tho Sashes' goal, only to be beaten off by the combined efforts of Stewart, Miller, and Co., but the black and white attackers wore not to be denied. A pass by Hemus to Graham resulted in the latter scoring a smart goal, and the score was bgain even. Change ends. In the last quarter the West End defence was called upon to hold the Grafton forwards at bay. This was done with a will, and attack after attack was staved off. On call of time Weeks, for West End, made a brilliant dash, and placed the issue beyond doubt by scoring a remarkably fine goal. No-side was sounded, leaving West End victors by four. goals to three Mr. Nolan refereed.
