NOTES. The bailing out of the water in the Waihi Beach mine- is proceeding at, a satisfactory pace. In the Ngatiawa mine, operations in the drive west on the main reef in tho bottom level have- been suspended for tho present. A start has been made to cut through tho reef 50ft back from tho rise in the low level, and the crosscut is now in 7ft. and is penetrating a well-defined body of ore, which, however, is somewhat flinty in appearance. In connection with the decision of the directors of the Ngatiawa Gold Mining Company to offer the reserved shares in the company to shareholders, the transfer books will be closed on July 25 and 24. Solid sandstone country is now being met with at the battery level in the« Champion mine, and 20ft have been driven throng!) it. and the change gives every indication of proving permanent. The whole of the stone in the faco carries colours of gold. Stoning operations on the Champion lodo have been commenced at the creek level, and the ore broken out is being stored in the pass connecting with tho low level, in readiness for sending to the battery- Repairs to the oil engine used for hauling the machinery to the batten' site have been finished, and tho engine is at work again. in tho Tairua Golden Hills mine the drive on the crosscut at No. 3 level passed through several small seams of quartz during the week, some of them containing a little moisture. The face of the drive is still dry, and the nature of tho country is such that the manager considers that no water will ho met with until the reei", which should bo close at hand, is cut. No. 1 reef north is of a. hard nature, composed of free ore, and contains a payable percentage of gold. On the south of No. 1 reef the men arc engaged stripping the quartz off the footwall. This portion of the reef is prospecting well, and is adding materially to the stock of payable ore already on hand.
