ASSAULTING A POLICEMAN.

Waihjt, Tuesday. YOUNG man named John Buckeridge was charged at the Police Court, to-day, before Mr. P. J. Burgess, S.M., with drunkenness on the Paeroa Road, at Waikino, on the loth inst., obscene language, and assaulting a policeman (Constable Flavell) while executing this duty, and damaging the officer's} uniform. The evidence showed that accosed, who had a bad record, seriously, assaulted the constable. The Bench convicted and discharged Buckeridge on the. charge of drunkenness, and ordered that a prohibition order be issued against him. For using obscene language he was lined £2 and costs, and for the 5 assault was sentenced to one month's hard labour. He was ordered to pay the sum of £1 for damage to the constable's clothing. The line and costs amounted to £4 13a 6d.
