At the banquet tendered by th* Scottish Liberal Club, Lord .Rosebery. in proposing the health of Sir T. Gibson-Carmiohaol, the new Governor of Victoria, declared that he was convinced thai their guest would do good to Vicfur!,), and would help Jo hind the Empire by the imperceptible thread of sympathy and friendship. He was confident that the Caledonia Club of Victoria would recognise in him a sympathetic, cordial spirit, while he would see in it- members men who were transforming Australia into one of the greatest regions of the Empire. Sir T. Gibson-CarmiehneL in reply, said that it had always been his desire to do .something to help his country, and he was- fully determined to try to do his duty.
