DONEDIN WINTER SHOW.
[BY TKT.r.<;KAI'H. —'.'BESS ASSOCIATION".] I) v N'i"x. Tuesday. The Agricultural and Pastoral Society's winter show was opened to-day in splendid weather and with a record attendance. The quality of the exhibits is fully up to the standard of previous years, and competition is very keen, particularly in cheese and factory butter. A fine display is made by the Agricultural Department. The show was officially opened by the Prime Minister, who traced the progress of the society since the first winter show in 1894. and also quoted statistics illustrative of the steady headway made by the province. He also referred to the good work being carried on by the Department, of Agriculture, and went on to say that the Government was anxious to provide an experimental farm for the .South Island. In the class, one box of butter, suitable for export, North Island only, Cheltenham secured first prize, Thames Valley second, and Bell Block third.
