PARNELL LICENSING COMMITTEE.

«> ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Parnell Licensing Committee was held in the Borough Council offices yesterday, the members present being: Mr. R. W. Dyer, S.M. (chairman), and ."Messrs. Transfer of License: The transfer of the license of the Royal George Hotel, Newmarket, from Christopher Leek to Peter Farquhar, was granted. Licenses for Old Houses: Archelaus Thomas applied for a fresh license for the Newmarket Hotel, Newmarket. The police report being satisfactory the application was granted. A fresh license for the Royal George Hotel, Newmarket, was also granted. Publicans' Licenses: The following publicans' licenses were renewed, the police report being satisfactory in each —..John C. Griffin, Alexandra Hotel, Manukau Road; Henry J. Syms, Captain Cook Hotel, Newmarket Edward Blair, Carlton Club Hotel, Newmarket; Thomas MeHaigh, Ellerslie Hotel, Ellerslie; Frederick Tomlinson, Exchange Hotel, Parnell; William H. (i. Wrathall, St. Helicrs Bay Hotel, St. Heliers Bay; Thomas Loughman, Windsor Castle Hotel, Manukau Road. An Unsatisfactory Report: The police in reporting upon the application of Charles Hannigan for a fresh license for the Star ant' Carter Hotel, Panmure, stated that the hotel Was in an unsatisfactory condition, and complaints had been received that Sunday trading was being carried on. Constable Foreman, called in support, stated that he was unable to substantiate the Sunday trading charge, but he hr.d received numerous complaints about it. The applicant, for whom .Mr. O. Nicholson appeared, did not admit that the premises were dirty, but would not swear that they were perfectly clean. He also emphatically denied the charge of Sunday trading. The application was granted, the Bench intimating that they desired the police requirements carried out, and Constable Foreman was instructed to report at next meeting. Alleged Sunday Trading: Constable_ Foreman in reporting upon the application of William Frederick Bell, of tile Panmure Hotel, for a renewal of his license, stated that he had received complaints about Sunday trading in respect to this house, but none during the' past four months. He was unable to prove anything. The application , was granted.
