At the hearing of the charge of murder against Olaf Ha Jinan and Andrew Andersen to-day Haakon Haaksen, cook, who deserted from' the Norwegian barque Taeora recently at Westport, stated that he was with the accused from 7.30 p.m. to a late hour, visiting a fish shop, a. hotel, and theatre, and being later with the two men. During that time Andersen did not leave him, and Halinau was only absent for a few minutes twice. Robb, a sailor on the Quiopus, said he saw the accused at the hotel about the time the murder was alleged to have taken place, and also later at a row at a. fish shop, and he described the fight, in which he stated. Halinan took part with three stewards off the Talune. finishing up with a further row on the wharf.
It is alleged by the defence that the fight with the stewards' was what accused described on the Saturday following Bourke's death.
