Dauby, who is at present acting as Immigration Officer, will succeed Mr. March in that capacity when the latter finally retires from the service at the end of his three months leave of absence on July 31. -• Mr. John Townley recently retired from 'the Mayoralty of Gtehornc, and a stun of • £150 has been subscribed by townspeople and country settlers towards his testimonial. It is intended to present Mr. iud Mrs. Townley with a piece of plate. Mr. James W. Watts, manager of the Onehunga Savings Dank, was tho recipient -of an. appropriate presentation on Tuesday t • evening from the members of the Onohtinga. Congregational Church choir, as a token of appreciation of his services as conductor. .' Mr. 'George George, director of technical 'education to tho Auckland Education Board, who recently left for England on. six months' leave of absence, has been granted . an additional, two months' leave. Mr. ' George has been delayed on his journey by | ?-> illness, ,and he also wishes to attend . a •. • " technical education conference, which is to :V,. be; held in London in August. : '-A. complimentary social was tendered to Mrs., J. T. Garlick in the Mount Albert ; parish hall on Monday evening by the .' members of the Mount Albert Bowling Club. The president (Mr. J. L. Harrison) expressed tho regret which members felt in. leaving " Ferndale" and its beautiful surroundings, where they had received so many kindnesses from Mrs. Garlick and the members of the family. With the increasing membership of the club, however, they had been forced to look for a suitable site for a larger bowling green, which they • hoped to beautify and make as attractive as the one they were leaving at "Ferndale." The Hon. G. Fowlds, in presenting Mrs. Garlick with a silver fruit and cake stand ; v from the members, referred to the good ■ work that had been carried on by the late Mr." J. Tonson Garlick, by the establishment of a literary club at his house fox the young men of the district. Mr. G. C. Garlick responded on behalf of Mr 3. Garlick, I . who was made a life member of the club. During the evening a musical programme was carried out.
