HARBOUR BOARD'S NEW BUILDING.
,«B» OBJECTION TO THE SITE. j At -last night'; meeting of the City Council a letter was read from Mr. M. M. The foundations for this building were already laid find made on reclaimed lane. The Council I had it. in its power to stop this building from I encroaching on the street by the simple J' process of getting the site and the street in j , i front of if-, declared pari: of the city audi - within its boundaries. Ho moved that the ' ' Streets Committee and fcintftdi wait upon j j the Harbour Board with a v'iew to getting | , I the Board to adopt this course, "11 ce-r- ! : I tainly. .-.coins a pity," concluded the Mayor. J ' j " that they should place this building in that i 1 ! particular place, and I hope, that they have ; not gone -,oo far to'-withdraw." ■ i Mr. H. M. Smeeton seconded the motion, i ; which was carried. ( i| • ; : — ■ I i I "ho me.U-er was also referred to at. a meet- > > | ing of the council of the Chamber of Com- i raorco > •.-■■'.i'ordny, when several members j strongly •■•> pressed the opinio'-) that it would , i be '« fwVni> mistake to crcc l the building as j ! proposed, a- not only would it spoil the view | i i of \bo harbour from Queen-treet and vice I ] versa, hnfc.it would also .reduce the width of j the aairanee to the wharf to :,oft.
