FRUIT AND PRODUCE MARKETS. Huainess Oil the local fruit and produce markets ; lias been fairlv brisk during the past, week, although the bad weather prevailing: had resulted , in supplies being: on the light side in several in- j stances." In produce very lew local potatoes were sent forward, anil the market was entirely de- ( pendent- on shipments from the South Island and , Tasmania. Prices showed an advance of about 10s per ton on late rates. Onions, which were held nillv last week, were easily disposed of, ( the prices for stocks held being 1 considerably re- ( duced. The supply of vegetables was only moderate. and all sold at high prices, hi dairy produce ( there. was a marked increase in (he supply of j dairy butter, and the competition at the auction i sales was much slower than last week. Moderate • quantities of farmers' bulk and separator were | sent in some of which is being held for better prices 'than those offered under the hammer yesterday. There was a decided fall in values throughout the week, and still lower prices are anticipated in the near future. Fresh eggs were in small supply and competition was keen for ] those offered at the auction sales, prices being ' about equal to those of last week. Values for farmers' and factory makes of cheese, bacon, and hams were unchanged. The fruit market was bet- i ter supplied than last week, liilt prices showed a decided decline. This, it is stated, is owing to , the high prices ruling of late restricting the j consumption, the retailers not- being prepared to pay with the prospect- of getting 110 return on their outlaw Poultry was in fairly good supply, but was fat short of" requirements, and the high , prices ruling made it impossible for orders for i Fiji by the outgoing steamer on Tuesday next to . be filled.
