AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL.

The meeting of the Auckland City Council, held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr. A. M. Myers), Messrs. R. Farreli, M. Casey, R. Tudehope, L. J. Bagnall, 0. Knight, A. J. Entriean, J. Court, H. M. Snieeton, W. 0. Somers, J. Patterson, C. Grey, C. J. Pair, and W. Hutchinson.

Width of Randolph-street :'Samuel Yaile and Sons wrote stating : that they were desirous of sub-dividing lots 51, 52, and 53, at the corner of Randolph-street and Newton Road. If Randolph-street should be widened out to 33ft from the centre line the only fraction of flat land upon which it would be possible to erect houses would be taken away. In these circumstances, and seeing that the street could never carry a heavy traffic, they asked the Council to consent to the street remaining its present width. Lighting Grafton Bridge:, The Works Committee approved of the engineer's, suggestion that the electric lighting points on the Grafton bridge, be increased from 14 to 26.

The Morgue: The sub-committee's report not being ready regarding a site for the morgue, this matter was deferred, provision to be made in this year's estimates of expenditure for an amount to defray the cost of the new morgue.

Right-of-way: With reference to the right-of-way giving access from Napieretreet, opposite Lower Hepburn-street, to Union-street, the Works Committee recommended establishing, if possible, the right of -he public to the right-of-way, which it was proposed by the propertyowners to fence off. The clause in the report was referred back to the committee to consider the advisableness of taking the necessary ; land under the Public Works Act.

New Power Station Site: A 'clause in the electric and tramways report stated that the sub-committee appointed to select a new site for the electric power station had decided to recommend that the Council should take a strip of land 200 ft by 600 ft between the King's Drive and the harbour, behind the Freezing Company's Works for the purpose of the electric power station and any other of the Council's purposes for which it might be. suitable. Plumbers' Licenses: The Chief Health Officer (Dr. Mason) wrote stating that the Council's letter with regard to the licensing of plumbers had been referred to him. The Minister for Internal Affairs now had under his consideration a Plumbers .Registration Bill, which, if passed, would entitle all on the'register to practise throughout the Dominion. The letter was received, and it was decided to obtain a copy of the Bill as 'soon as it was printed.
