The Senate of the United States has ratified the treaty providing for a joint commission "to examine ' the recent surveys and fix the* frontier line between Canada and the United States. - : :; : : / - ' , In.- connection with the frontier, line, the questions und€r discussion are chielly concerned with the north-eastern boundary of the United States, certain lake boundaries, the ownership of ■ small islands /in .these lakes, the matter of the Niagara, water diversion, and other subjects, none of which, may be called of firsts-class importance, but all affecting the two- countries. Although small, the questions are difficult to" negotiate, owing to the disappearance of ■ old boundary marks and other causes. ;, ■
