Although the shooting season does not commence until the first of next month, it is evident from what a resident has told the Rotorua Chronicle that some of the people up there are enjoying roast duck occasionally during the close season. A few evenings ago three ducks were seen flying along, Pukuatua-street in the direction of the Utuhina stream. Shortly after the birds had rested a shot was heard, and two of the ducks lose and flew away in the direction of the Sanatorium grounds. One or two evenings later a flock of ducks, hailing from the Sanatorium grounds, again made for the stream, in the same direction. Again a shot was heard after the birds had rested, and from appearances the number that returned was not equal with those that had passed over a few minutes before. From this it is evident that poaching is taking place.
