NEWTON SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Newton Schools' Committee was held on Wednesday evening, when there were present: Messrs. C. H. Sexton (chairman), J. M. White, "W. S. Smith, H. Schofield, R. James, G. E. Road, C. Waddingham, W. J. Holdsworth, and E. Healy. A deputation of householders from Richmond, representing the new Grey Lynn school district, waited upon the committee to lay before thorn their views respecting the proposed new school site. Messrs. A. Creamer, C. Norgrove. and Brown addressed the committee, strongly urging the need for a new school in the present populated locality, and objecting to the Board's site in Greenwood' Avenue. After the deputation had retired, the committee, on the motion of Mr. 11. Schofield, passed the following resolution:—"That this committee, having heard the deputation from the Grey Lynn school district upon the need for a new school, and tho question of site for the same, would strongly urge the Board of Education to purchase a site and .erect a school within the present populated area. We would respectfully point out to the Board that, in our opinion, this extensive and growing district will carry a large population, and the Board's site will also be required in the future, but is entirely unsuitable for present requirements." The headmaster of the Newton East school reported that thero were 895 scholars on the roll, with an average attendance of 810.
