NEW GAOL FOR GISBORNE.

[by telegraph. —own correspondent ] Gis BORNE, Monday. On Saturday afternoon Colonel Hume, Inspector of Prisons, accompanied by the Mayor (Mr. J. Townley), inspected three sites for the proposed new gaol, as recommended by the Borough Council. The sites are: Childers Road (Government section near the Stock Department's reserve), and two properties owned respectively by tha Hon. Captain Tucker and Mr. A. F. Matthews, near the Leading Lights, beyond Victoria township. A fourth property is under offer in Gladstone Road. Colonel Hume will report upon the several sites to the Minister for Justice. Upon the completion of the new building the present site will be handed over to the police authorities.
