Two young Wellingtonians, Masters R. H. Miller and Oscar Borer, who have taken an enthusiastic interest, in the affairs of the Navy League, have received the following letter from the secretary in London:—"My Dear Fellow-worker, — Mr. Palmer tells me that you have been most useful to him, and that you have expended quite a lot of energy upon the work of the league. 1 congratulate you on this, and should like to be able to do so personally : as it is, however, you must be content, with a letter. 1 think it an exceedingly fine thing that the boys in New Zealand are beginning to realise what it is to be a citizen of the British Empire. It is a very proud boast to be able to say yon are a British citizen, but you must remember that the Empire was got together in the past by men who thought no sacrifice was too great for their country. They have handed down this magnificent heritage to us, and we, in our turn, must take care that it is left unimpaired to those who come after us. This matt is more likely to influence your life, which is just beginning, than mine, which ia drawing towards its close, but the broad principle remains that, from time to time, unless we wish to be considered decadent specimens of our race, we must do that in the service of the Empire which necessity calls for. For instance, if your school had always been exceptionally good at cricket or football, and then you joined the team, and by your unfitness lost the matches, you would be likely to heir of it from your fellow-schoolmen, .aid if you take that simile, and apply if to the men and women of the Empire to-day, you will just get exactly at what. 1 mean.
