THE WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.
Sir.—it appears to me liar your correspondent, J'. liurot.li, musk surely be misinformed as to the progress of the prohibition movement in the United Suites, else ho would not endeavour 10 east undeserved slurs upon the members of. the Women's Christian Temperance Union for. giving, reverent expression to their feelings of thankfulness for the tremendous wave of success attending the efforts of their co-workers in America and I'inland. Why do such writers offer insult to tins people living in those countries by trying to make it appear that because the sale of certain poisons is prohibited by State law or by local veto their national existence is being threatened? That, is equally an insult to the intelligence of trio average reader of the Hbkali). Religious thought, rites, and influences will survive the abolition of the use of intoxicants either at the altar or in public places or in the homeseven of old-fashioned Christians in those countries. Women are usually silent in the Churches, but have too long silently borne the pains and penalties attaching to the use by men of the drink that bringeth nought but hurt to them and their offspring. It is simply false and a slander upon the women of the union to say that, because of their zeal in a noble cause and being up and doing, they must needs neglect : their homes. Such women are always homebuilders, not home-destroyers, and as such uphold that righteousness which exalteth the I nation. _\J. Ali.sop, Member W.C.T.U.
