ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of tlio council of the Auckland .Acclimatisation Society was bold yesterday afternoon, thoso present being: The president (Mr. K. W. Payton) and Messrs. 11. H. Partridge, E. Horton, G. R, Bloomficld, and 9. 0. Clark. Committees: Tlio following committees wore appointed for the ensuing year:-— Game Committee, Sir Robert; Lookliart and Messrs, IS. Anderson, 13. Grayson, W. 11. Hazard, and G. E. Bloomfield: Fish Committee, Messrs. J. L. Bloomfield, 11. Clark, E. Horton, and H. Partridge. Tlio Shooting Season: A circular was received from tho Government, asking what recommendations the society had to make respecting tlio classes of game to Ik- shot in tho district during the season which opens on May 1. It was decided to forward the same proposals as last year, with the addition of black swans to native game that may bo shot. \ Illicit Shooting: A letter was received from tlio president of the bluntly Pod and Gun Club, complaining that illicit shooting was being' indulged in to somo considerable extent in that district, more especially in the neighbourhood of Lake Waikare. The writer suggested the appointment of Mr. .John Hughes, hon. secretary of tho club, as local ranger. The. suggestion was adopted, and the Game Committee was authorised to spend from £15 to £20 in the appointment of special rangers until tho opening of tho season.
