CITY PROHIBITION LEAGUE.
THE monthly meeting of the City Prohibition League was held in the Alliance room, Al-bert-street, last night. The following resolutions were carried; — " The City of Auckland Prohibition and Temperance League views with alarm the spread of intemperance in the community, which is in evidence not only by general observation, but by the almost daily press reports of its evil results. It congratulates the police on their desire to benefit the public interest by directing the attention, of the Licensing Committee to matters that call for their care. They noticed the so-called protest inserted by the Licensed Victuallers' Association in the papers of the 13th inst., where they designate the publication ot facts deemed detrimental to their interest, as an ' underhand bombshell.' Believing that the only effective remedy for the inevitable evils of the liquor traffic is its extinction, we are determined to do our utmost to secure its abolition at the forthcoming poll." "That the thanks of the league be conveyed to the City Council, who, by their voting excluded intoxicating liquor from the pavilion of the Victoria Park." ~ "That in respect to Commissioner Dinnie's letter to the secretary of the Licensed Victuallers' Employees of Christchurch, dated Wellington, February 28, 1908, we direct the attention of the executive of the New Zealand Alliance to the same, with the request, that they take what action they deem best in regard to it, it being in our opinion an attempt to unduly interfere with the independence of inspectors of police."
