The Dunedin Star publishes a resume of the history of the city's Waipori electric power scheme purchase, which, the paper states, is neither creditable to the city's civic capacity and foresight, nor particularly complimentary to the expert knowledge on which the policy of the Council was based. A scheme which was to give the city 2000 horse-power for £34,500 has grown to a capital expenditure of £170,000 This, however, does,not represent the motst serious phase of the question. The disturbing factor is that even for this enormous outlay the city has not got 2000 horsepower, and apparently cannot count on obtaining it without further expenditure.
