THE MAORI WILL CASE.
A. CONTESTED BEQUEST. Tub hearing of (lw contested Maori will rase Wits continued on Saturday, at the Native Land Court, before Judge Edger. The particulars of the case show that in 1905 Xihi Kiwi, a. Maori woman, died at Onewhero, and she was, at the time of her death, possessed of property at Whangarei and Waiuku, variously stated to be worth .from £200 to £SCO. " In her will she. bequeathed this properly to her daughter, Ngahuiiungi, and to Mr. Henare Kaihau, M.P. Certain grandchildren, for whom Mr. Fred Earl appeared, moved to have this will set aside, alleging that there had been undue influence at work in the execution of the will, and further, that the deceased was insane at the time the will was purported to have been made. Mr. C. J. Parr appeared to support the will. • Evidence was given by Maru, one of the grandchildren who are moving to have the will upset, relative to the telegram which he sent to Judge Edger withdrawing from the. case. Mr. Earl contended t-luit this telegram and a statement of a similar nature, made by the witness, were of no consequence. The main point was that they were there thatday to contest the will. Mr. Parr replied that at the outset of the ca.se very serious allegations had been made against- Mr. Kaihau, and it was his (Mr Parr's) duty as an advocate, to bring out the whole facts of the case. He contended that Marti's evidence had an important bearing on the case. In reply,to Mr. Earl, Maru stated that lie sent the" telegram at the suggestion of Mr. Kaihau. . At the conclusion of the evidence the further hearing of the caiso was adjourned till Monday week.
