WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.

'L'hk Women's Christian Tempera nee Union Convention was resinned in tho Church of Christy West-street, Now ton, on Saturday morning. Mrs. Graham (Gisborne) opened the meeting with Bible reading and prayer. The Rev. Canon Haselden, acting-presi-dent of the Auckland Provincial No-License Council, wrote regretting that he had missed attending the reception meeting. Miss Cole, business manager for the White Ribbon, submitted her report, in which she urged that each union should have a local agent, and advocated procuring outside advertisements whore possible. The report was adopted, and a hearty vote of thanks accorded to Miss Cole. The balance-sheet was satisfactory. A letter was read from Miss Smith, editor of tho Wliite Ribbon, asking to be relieved' of her duties owing to ill-health. Mrs. Oldham was nominated for the position. Votes of thanks were passed to Canon Haseldon for his letter, and Miss Smith for past services, also regretting her inability to continue. This morning the convention will resume at 10 o'clock, when amendments to the constitution will be considered and departmental reports presented. After the luncheon adjournment; Miss McCarthy will read a paper on "How to Make the Work of the Unions Effective." This will be followed by the question-box and general discussion.
