An ■ in-.ugural conference of the comities ; 'the Bay of Islands electorate was held at Kaeo, when the following resolutions were passed :— "That the conference be the first of a series, to be called the Bay of Islands Counties' Conference." hat the conference ask Parliament for the stun of £30,000 for the purpose of putting the Main North Road in order from Hukerenui northwards to Ohaeawai and Horeke." I hat in the opinion of this conference the time has arrived when the Government should take over the main road and the Ohaeawai-Horeke road." "That the conference emphatically protests against the excessive charges and incorrect work in preparing the valuation rolls, and desires that the local bodies be permitted to make their own valuation." "That Messrs. Wilkinson and Pearson be appointed to receive any important communications between the sittings of the conferences, with power to deal with the same." "That in view of the heavy charitable aid charges in connection with the gum- j digging community, licenses for gum- ! diggers be raised to £1, except in the case i of botra-fide ratepayer.?, whose licenses j should remain at the present cost (ss), j and that the Government be asked to j amend the Act accordingly."
