FIRE AT WAIHI.
A HOUSE DESTROYED.
[BT telegraph.—own correspondent.] Waihi, Monday. A FODR-BOOMED house, owned and occupiec by Mr. T. Collins, in Durham-street, Bulltown East, was totally destroyed by fire on Saturday night, together with practically the whole of the contents, while the inmates had a narrow escape. According to Mr. Collins, he and his sister retired to bed about nine o'clock, and about 20 minute, later, while reading, lie heard a noise as of falling crockery in the kitchen. He •ailed to his sister, who had meanwhile been awakened by the glare, and she, in reply, stated that, the roof was on tire, at the same moment rushing in from the kitchen, followed bv a tongue of flame and smoke It seems that Miss Collins whs confronted bv the tire when she opened Iter bedroom door, and in the dash for safety was considerably scorched. A few articles were saved by Mr. Collins, but he estimates his loss at about £200, and that of his sister at between £15 and £20. Neither house nor furniture were insured, and so far the cause of the outbreak is unknown. 0
