DOWNPOUR AT KAWHIA. [BT TELEGRAPH.—O«.V COruiLSroNDEXT.] Kawhia, Tuesday. Splendid rain fell yesterday, and it will do an enormous amount of good, 26 points being registered by the Government rain gauge here. It is considered that the downfall will have the effect of extinguishing the bush fires. SPLENDID FALL IN TARANAKI. [BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS association.] New Plymouth, Tuesday. Gentle rain fell almost throughout the .tight, and was followed at nine this morning by a tropical downpour. Stratford, Tuesday. Splendid steady rain has been falling beta all night, and it is still raining. Eltham, Tuesday. The drought in the Taranaki district has broken, and 16 hours' hcaevy rain have fallen. _ , Hawera, Tuesday. The drought seems to have entirely broken. There was splendid rain again last night, 45 points being registered.
