JOSEPH PETRIE. of Greymouth, Newspaper Proprietor (Mayor of Greymouth and Chairman of Greymouth Harbour Board). JOHN CLARKE GITTOS. of Greymouth, Draper (M'anson and Co.). NEIL MCLEAN, of Wellington, Contractor. EXPERTS' REPORTS. The property has been carefully examined by Messrs. P. F. Daniel, F.G.S., M.1.M.E., Robert Alison, M.E., Charles McQueens, Robert Russell, W. Watchman, and James Kennedy. Copies of these gentlemen's reports are attached to prospectus. From these it will be observed that there is ample coal obtainable, and with the exception of the expenditure proposed for unwatering the Wallsend mine, the working expenses should not be large. The reports show that there is estimated to be about 15,500,003 tons of coal immediately available, without considering seams which may hereafter be discovered in the coal-bearing areas. Mr. P. F. Daniel, F.G.S.. M.1.M.E., in concluding his report, says Taking the proposition as a whole, the proposition • offers exceptional advantages for the safe and profitable investment of capital. The Wallseud shafts are under seven mites from the shipping port of ley mouth, and within a fewfeet of the Greyniouth-Brunner line. Considering the present and potential value of the properties, the capital requited to develop them is exceptionally small. There is no fear of an immediate market for an output of 200,000 tons per annum. Under proper conditions the coal should yield 2s per ton net profit. Until completion of the larger scheme of the Wallbend development, the Tynesido mine should pay 10 per cent, yearly interest on a capital of £50,000. The coal contents of the Wallsend freehold being free of royalty, a direct saving of sixpence per ton, or £50.000 stg. on . two million tons will bo made in the working expenses of the colliery, as compared with cost of coal won from Government leaseholds. The cost of opening- out the lower seams by shaft would be comparatively small in proportion to the extent and value of the coal commanded. At an output of 200,000 tons annually, it will approximately take fifty years to exhaust the Bruuiicr seam. The possibilities following the development of the lower seams may (in the not distant future) place the property in the ranks of the world's most profitable collieries.
