' .... in the reports which was submitted to the _. . _,_ ,_ City Council , last evening, Mr. Wyilie stated that application* for current were '■';■' coming in daily. The maximum demand V% of all the applications -.vat, nearly 700 kilo- - - watts, and the Council should ho pio- '"'■ pared to meet a demand of at least 250 ■ kilowatts before the end of the year; the ■"■-}:'•'. 'original feeder jab"« capacity, which was 1 r / J " 65 kilowatts, was now 130 kilowatts, and ■ in three months would be 200 kilowatts, ' ■Mid it would be necessary to provide a .-J ■ fourth feeder, bringing the capacity up to ' nearly 270 kilowatts, which could be:completed in three months. The cost would be about £800, subject to market fluc- -, ■ tuations. lie recommended, the immediate ' extension of the distributing mains in Al-bert-street, fciwansoii-slreet, Custom-street Kant and West-, Foil-streat, Commerce- , streot, High-streot, Coburg-street, and a short length of Wellet>lcy-slrect, the estiiy mated cost being £4500. He also recommended a minimum sizeof distribution of , .15 square inch, some of the distributors laid being only half that size. Ho had a larger scheme under consideration, but s " considered it wisest to with-hold his report oh this until 'experience was gained " ' .with the start on the present scheme. Brickland, the driver, who was seriously injured internally, was stated to have said when picked tip that it was a funny, thing V : he had hot heard the train approaching.
