HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION.
THE CASE OF WANGANUI. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION-.] Wellington, Wednesday. A deputation from Wanganui interviewed the Hon. J. A. Millar this morning, and questioned the legality of the recent proceedings by which the Saturday half-holi-day was declared in the borough. Mr. A. D. Willis .submitted that the fairest way out of the difficulty would be to leave the issue to he settled by the ratepayers constitutionally 12 months hence, ait the municipal elections. Mr. Lloyd Jones .stated that the gazetting of Saturday would inflict loss on many tradesmen. ; ; The Minister replied that neither Satin*-. day nor Thursday would be gazetted till ho had secured the fullest information on the subject. He desired to act in accordance with the wishes of the majority of the townspeople. The whole trouble was that Wanganui was a combined district.
