It id tolerably certain that. New Zealand sportsmen will be able in a few years to follow the shy chamois as well as the deer over the ridges of the Southern Alps. The Emperor of Austria a short time ago pre-' sented the Dominion with specimens of the breed, and, according to information received by the Tourist Department, the little herd has twice recently been seen in the vicinity of the Mount Cook Hermitage,' where they were liberated. One of the females had a fine strong. kid with her, indicating that the chamois are thriving in. their new; home. •
