These Competitions are promoted with a view to encouraging Photographer?, both professional »nd amateur, to 3 produce pictures suitable for journalistic work. Photography in % Ncw Zealand has at* stained a. high standard, and favoured with unrivalled climatic conditions and an infinite 1 variety of subjects, .there is a wide scope and an excellent future for outdoor photo* * graph v. In j previous competitions the landscape and seascape pictures have been included in oim > - , class, but experience has shown that in high-class photographs of dissimilar types it is hardly possible to make a fair comparison, It has, therefore, been decided to encourage both branches individually, and make two separate classes with liberal prizes [ attached to each. The competition is advertised early in order to give intending competitors the benefit of the summer months during which to obtain subjects. ; The competition will remain open until March 31 nest. The following arc the various classes, and the amounts of prizes offered: — I.—A NEW ZEALAND LANDSCAPE S.—SPORTING, HUNTING, RACING, (with or without figure.) First prize, YACHTING, OR BOATING VIEW. £4; second prize, £2. First prize, £-1; second prize, £1. : 2.—A NEW ZEALAND SEASCAPE (with NEW ZEALAND COMIC STUDY, or without figure). CONDITIONS. No photograph previously published or entered for any other competition will bo allowed to compete. The negatives must in all cases be the work of the competitor. Competitors should remember that email views, although allowed to compete, at e not so suitable for reproduction as largo ones. In awarding the prizes the suitability of the photograph for reproduction will be taken into consideration. Bromide prints are not to suitable for reproduction as those on the ordinary p.o.p. paper. The Proprietors will have the right to reproduce ' any photographs sent, in for competition. Good typical pictures of general interest are preferable to those of merely locs' interest. In sending in photographs, prints should be sent flat, if possible. Particular!• should be written on the back 'of the print in pencil, without in any way damaging it. All photographs must be addressed to the " Competition Editor" of the Atjck land Weekly News, and the class for which it is entered should be clearly market both on the back of the photograph as well as on i-he out-side of the packet. _ ■ Where a nom de plume is used it is advisable to also write the name of the compe titor on the print. If in any class it is considered that none of the photographs sent in are worthy , of publication, the Proprietors reserve their right to make no award.
