VENICE MURDER DRAMA.
HOW THE PRISONERS PASS THEIR TIME IN GAOL. The chief actors in the Venice murder drama, the Countess Tarnowska, her maid Perier, and her two lovers, the lawyer Prilukoff and the young aristocrat Naumoff,' accused of the murder of Count Kamarowski and of complicity therein, are still being examined : n secret by the judicial authorities. Prilukoff objected to the Russian interfjreter named by the Court, and another iad to be appointed. It is now stated that the examination of the prisoners w ; not be completed for two or* three weeks more, at which time the Chamber of Indictments will have to decide on the exact nature of the charges to be formally preferred against each prisoner. The '.rial, in any case, will not begin for several month's, as voluminous correspondence and other documents have to be translated. Naumoff, who shot Count Kaomarowski and who is said to have been the eountcss' dupe, has had three visits from his father. He writes touching letters to his father twice weekly, and distracts his thoughts by diligent .-.tudy of the Italian language. . The countess remains tranquil, sleeps soundly, eats heartily, smokes cigarettes, and reatls French novels, in which she takes great pleisure. Her father, Count O'Rurik, is expected to vieit her shortly. The maid Perier suffers from neuralgia, and has fits of weeping, lamenting iier fate and that of her aged mother, who is living alone in Lyons. She has frequent conversations with the nuns who visit the orisons. . : Prilukoff ;ecently prepared a memoran- ! dum, which he sent to his lawyer with I instructions to protest that Italian authori[ties are incompetent, to judge him.....
