FUNDS FOR PUBLIC WORKS
STATEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER. [by TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Monday. In reference to the attack made on the New Zealand Budget by the Investors' Review, which wants to know where New Zealand is going to raise the £2,216,000 required for public works, and says it cannot be got in London, the Prime Minister points out that it was fully explained at the time that only one million of this was required by way of loan. The rest is in hand, or will be transferred from the Consolidated Fund. The sum of £800,000 comes from the latter, and, Sir Joseph Ward says, the financial results of the year already show the Government to be more than able to make the transfer.
